The paragraph should have begun as follows: βAn alternative explanation, the local-slant hypothesis, suggests that location of the CoP is not recovered. Instead, the observed invariance is due to an adjustment of the retinal-image shape based on measurements of the local slant of the picture surface at the point of interest. This hypothesis does not require estimates of the location of or distance to the CoP.β
