In 2006, clinical trial developer Paula Williamson was trying to set up a standard study comparing two asthma drugs. When she met with the chief investigators, however, she realized that they were unsure exactly what their trial should measure. She turned to previous studies and reviews to get some clarity but found that few assessed the same outcomes, and most included completely unique ones.
