By summer's end, one of these people is likely to be the leader of a team that will win an unprecedented grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). These researchers have all applied to head a virtual center, christened the Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI), which is designed to track down answers to intractable questions about vaccines for AIDS.
