Uveal melanoma cells are resistant to EZH2 inhibition regardless of BAP1 status

In a recent issue of Nature Medicine, LaFave et al. report that expression of enhancer of zeste 2 polycomb repressive complex 2 subunit (EZH2) is higher in samples from patients with mesothelioma than in those from matched normal individuals, and they investigated the response of mesothelioma cell lines to an EZH2 inhibitor (EZH2i)1. The authors show that BRCA1-associated protein 1 (BAP1)-mutant mesothelioma models are sensitive to EZH2 inhibition and conclude that EZH2 represents a therapeutic target in BAP1-deficient malignancies.
