Job growth in HIV research is shifting from laboratories in the developed world to the regions most affected by AIDS. Myrna Watanabe reports

Once a growth area in both the United States and Europe, the job market for HIV/AIDS is now flattening out. That said, researchers with backgrounds similar to Wagner's — who has an MD from Yale and did a fellowship in infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins — will still be able to find jobs. These days, however, the jobs are more likely to involve clinical-research programmes in developing nations than doing basic research in Western countries.
