MERLIN...and the Geneticist's Stone?

This MERLIN is not a wizard, but a new software package offering more rapid calculation of multipoint linkage likelihoods in larger pedigrees than has been possible. The practical advances provided by MERLIN are certainly welcome, but perhaps we need a little magic as well.
