Abstract
HUMAN lymphoblastoid cells contain numerous, apparently complete, copies of the Epstein-Barr herpesvirus (EB virus) genome1,2. In some cell lines (producer cells), the viral genome may undergo spontaneous activation leading to viral antigen synthesis, while in other cell lines (non-producer cells) the viral genome rarely, if ever, activates spontaneously3.
