Abstract
MICROTUBULES appear to play an important role in maintaining neurites of mouse neuroblastoma cells1 and of cultured chick spinal ganglia2 under normal in vitro conditions, perhaps serving as cytoskeletal elements3. However, a feature of many kinds of microtubules is their dissociation upon exposure to cold3–6. Usually, exposure to a temperature of 0–4° C for 30–60 min is sufficient to depolymerize such microtubules and often results in an alteration of cellular form.
