RNA Synthesis in Chicken Erythrocytes

Abstract

CHICKEN erythrocyte nuclei were reported not to synthesize RNA1, and consequently have been used to study reactivation of nuclear synthesis2–4. In some ducks, however, mature erythrocyte nuclei continue to synthesize some RNA5–7, and we have found that the erythrocytes of adult chickens synthesize substantial amounts of RNA. We have found none in which the erythrocytes have no synthetic activity.
