The survival and quality of life of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have greatly improved in the last few decades,1,2 but long-term survival remains poor.1 In fact, adverse outcomes are mainly accounted for by long-term complications of the disease and adverse effects of drug therapy.
