Below each simulation snapshot, the corresponding node–bridge diagram is plotted where hydrophobic crystals are represented as red nodes and physical bridges as black lines. The thickness of the black lines is linearly proportional to the multiplicity of the bridge (number of connections). Colour code is the same as in Fig. 1. Note that water beads are not shown for clarity and the scale bar applies for all the snapshots.
