(a) Conversion of racemic furylethanol by chloroperoxidase is accompanied by enrichment of the (S)-alcohol through kinetic resolution (krel=4.5). (b) Incorporation of 18O by incubation under 18O2-enriched argon atmosphere. (c) Coincubation of furylhydroperoxide and furylcarbinol in the absence of external oxidizing agents leads to selective formation of the hydroperoxide-derived product. The reaction was stopped at low conversion to deliberately overestimate 1a/1a- d3-scrambling as expected for a potential alcohol diffusion pathway.
