In dark blue: surface rendering of the ANOVA deaf subjects>controls (phonology>orthography); negative and positive correlations with RT during the phonological task are displayed in green and red, respectively; negative and positive correlations with CI scores are in purple and pink, respectively; negative and positive correlations with lip-reading scores measured before implantation are in cyan and yellow, respectively; negative correlation with deafness duration is displayed in black. Note that there was no controls>deaf subjects effect, and no positive correlation with deafness duration. Black arrows indicate significant connectivity between the seed regions (visual cortex and STS) and the inferior frontal gyrus in the phonological task.
