Hidden powers of the mitochondria

Abstract

The intermembrane space of mitochondria is home to several potentially lethal proteins, including pro-apoptotic caspases. The observation that caspase-9 moves from mitochondria into the nucleus on the induction of apoptosis provides this caspase with a possible new role.
