First evaluation of the European hESCreg

The European human embryonic stem cell registry (http://www.hescreg.eu) was launched in January in Berlin to coincide with a high-profile symposium1, providing an overview on international developments in the field of human embryonic stem (hES) cell research. The background and process of establishment of hESCreg have been discussed previously2,3. At its public launch, the database already contained data sets from 264 hES cell lines, 191 of which also had associated characterization data. Here we update the community as to changes made to the initial database structure and provide crucial insights gained from the collection of characterization information on the hES cell lines registered in the database so far.
