All maps and images were generated using ESRI basemap imagery. d, A scatterplot as validation for our broad-scale estimates of total tree number. This shows the relationship between our predicted tree estimates and reported totals for regions with previous broad-scale tree inventories (see Methods for details). The straight line and the dotted line are the predicted best fit line and the 1:1 line, respectively.
