A representative raster plot illustrating a shift from mounting (0.3 mW mm−2) to attack (0.6 mW mm−2) with increasing photostimulation intensity. Note that once attack was elicited, reducing the photostimulation intensity back to 0.3 mW mm−2 no longer evoked mounting, but simply failed to elicit attack. Whether this hysteresis is intrinsic to the animal, or represents a form of conditioning, is not clear.
