Abstract
Three cases of orbital inflammatory disease caused by herpes zoster are described. This extremely rare complication occurred between 5 days and 14 days following the skin eruption and slowly resolved with or without treatment. Biopsy of a chronic inflammatory lesion on the cheek of one patient demonstrated a sterile vasculitis and granulomatous Iiponecrosis, a process which may underlie the orbital disease in these patients.
