Future Science Prize 2023

The Future Science Prize is the first privately funded science prize jointly established by scientists and entrepreneurs. It was established in 2016 by the Future Forum, a non-profit organization based in mainland China. The prize has three award categories: life science, physical science, and mathematics/computer science.

The prize aims to recognize scientific breakthroughs that have long-term significance. Regardless of the researcher’s nationality, the nominated work should have been completed primarily in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan. Each prize carries a monetary award of ¥6.5 million (approximately USD$1 million). Learn more about the 2023 winners in the videos below and find the winners from other years here.

2023 Mathematics and Computer Science Prize Laureates

Kaiming He, Jian Sun, Shaoqing Ren and Xiangyu Zhang, winners of the 2023 Mathematics and Computer Science Prize.

The laureates were awarded the prize for fundamental contribution to artificial intelligence by introducing deep residual learning.

2023 Life Science Prize Laureates

Jijie Chai and Jian-Min Zhou, winners of the 2023 Life Science Prize.

The laureates were awarded the prize for the discovery of resistosomes and elucidation of their molecular structures and functions in plant immune response against pathogens.

2023 Physical Science Prize Laureates

Zhongxian Zhao and Xianhui Chen, winners of the 2023 Physical Science Prize.

The laureates were awarded the prize for their seminal breakthroughs in the discovery of high-temperature superconducting materials and systematic advancements in elevating the transition temperature.
