DeepMind’s new AI masters the online game StarCraft II

'AlphaStar' beat human opponents to reach the top 200 players in Europe.

Google’s DeepMind artificial intelligence researchers have already mastered games like Pong, Chess and Go but their latest triumph is on another planet. AlphaStar is an artificial intelligence trained to play the science fiction video game StarCraft II. After besting two professional players in January 2019, DeepMind took AlphaStar to face off against members of the public and achieved GrandMaster level.
