AI reverse-engineers antibodies

Machine learning platforms such as AlphaFold have proved powerful tools to predict a protein’s structure from its sequence. Now a study in Science reports a large language model that can perform the opposite task, starting with a protein’s structure and working back to predict sequence changes that might boost the protein’s function. The researchers use this approach to improve therapeutic antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 variants of interest.
