This work was supported by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions. Since 2006, umbilical cord blood has been collected in Sweden and stored at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg in the NS-CBB. The NS-CBB is altruistic and publicly funded. The present goal for the NS-CBB is to contain at least 5000 units of high quality in terms of cell content, and about 50% of donors should come from ethnic minorities and immigrant groups outside Europe. Presently, the cord blood bank contains CBUs from ~4250 donors and close to 30% are of non-Caucasian or mixed ethnic origin. The NS-CBB has received accreditation for international operations in 2013–2016 by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy.
