This supplement is the second Proceedings of a conference entitled ‘Evidence vs Experience in Neonatal Practice’. The first conference held in October 2004 utilized a format, which included formal lectures and an extended discussion period. The faculty for this meeting were well-recognized experts in the field of neonatology and the inaugural Proceedings was published in a supplement to the Journal of Perinatology in May 2005.
This second Proceedings (June 2005) follows the same structure and includes well known national and international faculty with expertise in various neonatal conditions. The field of neonatology grows as the technology advances. Owing to our ‘therapeutic exuberance’ neonatologists today often ‘jump on the bandwagon’ utilizing therapies, which may seem reasonable but are not evidence-based. Thus the title of these Proceedings ‘Evidence vs Experience in Neonatal Medicine’ is appropriate as the presentations and discussions try to merge the experience with the evidence. Jatinder Bhatia has assembled an outstanding group of neonatologists, (Istvan Seri, Kris Sekar, Ron Clyman, David Adamkin, Eduardo Bancalari, Roger Soll, Rangasamy Ramanathan, Ola Saugstad and Christian Speer).
