Abstract
Between January and June 1990, 688 patients of Greater Glasgow Health Board Community Dental Service were asked to attend a General Dental Practitioner in future. At the end of June 1991, only 255 patients, 37% of the sample, were found to be registered on the General Dental Service Capitation Scheme. Registration was associated with the 'Neighbourhood Type' which is a reflection of the socioeconomic characteristics of the locality. Those living in the most favourable group of Neighbourhood Types were more likely to be registered with a General Dental Practitioner after leaving the Community Dental Service
