RETRACTED ARTICLE: Good and bad cell death

18 December 2023 This article has been retracted on 18 December 2023.In view of the fact that the authors of ‘APP binds DR6 to trigger axon pruning and neuron death via distinct caspases' (A. Nikolaev et al. Nature 457, 981–989; 2009) are retracting their report, the author of this News & Views wishes to retract his article, ‘Good and bad cell death’ (Nature 557, 970–971; 2009), which dealt with this study and was based on the accuracy and reproducibility of their data.

Neurodegeneration often has disease connotations. However, it is also a developmental process for fine sculpting of the nervous system. One signalling cascade might mediate the process in both circumstances.
