Global resonances in the evolution of solar magnetic fields

Abstract

Decomposition of the pattern of solar magnetic fields in spherical harmonics for a data set of 25 years and power spectrum analysis of the harmonic coefficients reveals a strikingly resonant modal structure. The resonance frequencies contain information on the structure of the magnetic fields in the Sun's interior.
