Abstract
THE existence, in the Lower Palaeozoic sequence of western Norway, of a major ophiolite complex which is outlined here is shown best on the island of Karmøy, western Norway. Our preliminary interpretation is that the ophiolite complex was thrust into position during the Grampian phase of the Caledonian orogeny, although it has probably been subsequently displaced during the end-Silurian phase of that orogeny.
