Abstract
THE fate of histoincompatible transplants or malignant cells bearing new antigens on the cell surface may be assumed to depend on the magnitude and proportion of the cell-mediated and humoral immune responses directed towards these new antigens in the host1–6. Although the genetic control of both the humoral and the cell-mediated immune responses has been studied intensively7–12, far less is known about the genetic regulation determining the magnitude and proportion of these two types of responses to the same antigenic determinant. We report here results of such studies using a simple chemical, oxazolone, which elicits both delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) and antibody responses.
