Andesitic pyroclastic flows from Colima Volcano

Abstract

COLIMA (19°31′N, 103°37′W) is important as one of the most continuously active continental andesite volcanoes in North America. Various types of pyroclastic and lava eruptions have been reported over the last 400 yr (ref. 1). Here we describe the eruption of andesitic lava and associated pyroclastic flows during December 1975–April 1976. On the basis of our visits between January and June, 1976, we comment on the relationship of this to earlier eruptions of Colima.
