Homoeotic genes, compartments and cell determination in Drosophila

Abstract

Normal development of Drosophila depends on the activity of certain ‘master’ genes. We review recent work which suggests that these genes control the developmental pathways taken by specific groups of cells as they divide and construct precisely defined parts of the adult fly.
