Thymine hydroperoxide as a mediator in ionising radiation mutagenesis

Abstract

WE describe the mutagenic action of chemically synthesised cis-5,6-dihydro-6-hydroperoxy-5-hydroxythymine (6-TOOH)1 on transforming DNA of Haemophilus influenzae2,3, and suggest a mechanism by which ionising radiation induces mutations in vivo.
