Effect of internal fluoride and phosphate on membrane currents during intracellular dialysis of nerve cells


IT has become possible recently to isolate single neurones from molluscan ganglia by the use of proteolytic enzymes, so that the external solution can be changed easily1,2. One advantage is that the absence of the axon makes the application of the voltage clamp technique to isolated neurones more effective3. We describe here a further development—an attempt to produce wide ranging changes in the ionic composition of the intracellular medium of neurones isolated from the snail Helix pomatia.
