T–T interaction in the generation of helper cells in vitro

Abstract

THE interaction of different cell types is now widely recognised as being of fundamental importance in the generation of many different immune responses1,2, and occurs in many species. Several broad groups of interactions have been described—between macrophages and lymphocytes3,4, between T cells, B cells (and macrophages) in antibody production1,3,5 and between subpopulations of T cells in the graft versus host responses6, and in the generation of cytotoxic T cells7–10.
