Abstract
SISTER chromatid exchanges (SCE) were first described by Taylor et al.1 using autoradiographic techniques. After DNA replication in the presence of tritiated thymidine and subsequent replication in the absence of this radioisotope, two types of SCE were observed in colchicine-induced tetraploid cells. Twin exchanges represented events occurring in the second division cycle whereas single exchanges represented events occurring in the first division cycle.
