[Letters to nature]

Abstract

WE report here the occurrence of somatic chromosome translocations in lymphocytes from individuals studied for clinical cytogenetic diagnosis. We note that these translocations are non-random in composition and resemble those in ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) lymphocyte clones1. Our data have been collated with information from two other centres (Halifax and Atlanta) reported in this issue2,3 to provide a preliminary estimate of the frequency of chromosome translocations in cultured lymphocytes.
