Some evidence of chronology and palaeoecology of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans and Kromdraai from the fossil Bovidae

Abstract

Bovid fossil remains suggest a tentative chronology for the seven cave assemblages, from Sterkfontein, Swartkrans and Kromdraai, from which they are derived. They also suggest that, during the almost 2 Myr of South African hominid and faunal Pleistocene history encompassed by this succession of assemblages, certain changes in vegetation cover and cave accumulation patterns may have occurred in the Sterkfontein Valley.
