Polymeric film precursors in the homogeneous crystallisation of some metal oxides

Article metrics

Abstract

WE have already reported1,2 the occurrence of two-dimensional polymeric structures prior to precipitation in the system ZrOCl2 (aqueous solution)→ZrO2 (monoclinic). Here we show that similar thin polymeric films are precursors in the precipitation of αFeOOH, βFeOOH, and V2OH2O, and that the morphology and nature of these precipitates arises from the manner of condensation of these films to form a crystalline precipitate.
