Abstract
A deep borehole on São Miguel encountered temperatures exceeding 200° C at a depth of 550 m. Subaerial volcanics persist to a depth of 786 m below sea level and indicate an average subsidence of 0.1 cm yr−1 for the island over the past 690,000 Myr.
