Sequence divergence of mammalian globin messenger RNA

Abstract

The rate of nucleotide change between globin genes for mouse, rabbit, rat and man is considerably slower than that of non-repeated DNA, suggesting that selection pressure is less stringent on the bulk of the genome than on genes coding for polypeptides.
