Abstract
COLINVAUX1 has suggested that the Galapagos Islands were dry during the period from about 30,000 to 10,000 BP and that this was because the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), which at present brings rain to the area in the early part of each year, remained north of the geographical equator during this period. Here I shall examine the obvious alternative possibility, namely that the ITCZ remained south of the geographical equator during the period.
