Transfer of Inorganic Mercury to Milk of Goats

Abstract

ALTHOUGH poisoning due to mercury in foodstuffs is well established1, little is known about the transit of the food web by mercury compounds. Because of the importance of milk in the human diet, we have investigated how lactating animals metabolize mercury, not by administration of gram quantities of mercury as was done before2,3 but at environmental levels.
