Mechanism for the X-ray Pulsations in Cyg X-1

Abstract

WE wish to suggest a mechanism for producing the observed X-ray pulsations from Cyg X-1 and other sources such as Cir X-1, which exhibits similar temporal behaviour1. We submit that the pulsations are related to oscillations in a region of high magnetic field produced by giant flare-like events. Before discussing details we briefly review the observations.
