Chemical Studies on Light Chains from Cardiac and Skeletal Muscle Myosins

Abstract

Differences have been observed in the thiol sequences of light chains from cardiac and skeletal muscle myosins. Cardiac light chains from both bovine and sheep hearts contain the same thiol sequence (peptide A) which is present in the “alkali” light chains of rabbit and sheep skeletal myosin, but have two extra thiol sequences (peptides B and C). Chemical similarities have been demonstrated between myosin light chains from cardiac and slow skeletal muscle.
