Abstract
THERE is evidence that dendrites form presynaptic elements and that these synapses are involved in neuronal interaction in the amacrine cells of the retina1–3 and the granule cells of the olfactory bulb4,5. Recent evidence suggests that there are neurones which give rise to synapses from their dendritic branches in several areas of the central nervous system.
