Abstract
HAMERTON et al.1 have presented evidence which they interpret as a demonstration of preferential late replication of the donkey X chromosome (paternal X) in the female mule complement. This is in disagreement with cytological evidence2 for random X-inactivation3 in the female mule complement. This apparent contradiction prompted us to repeat the latter study and we report here our observations.
