Chain Initiation in Primitive Protein Synthesis: a 60S Intermediate in the Formation of Active 70S Ribosomes

Abstract

Assembly of the active complex from subunits and poly U requires uncharged tRNA and involves the formation of a 60S initiation complex which subsequently is converted into the 70S ribosome by addition of the ternary complex of Phe-tRNA, T-factor and GTP.
