Age and Origin of Aeolian Sand in the Vale of York

Abstract

SANDY soils in the Vale of York within the area of glacial Lake Humber and north of the Escrick moraine1 suffered severe wind erosion during early 1967 and 19682–4. I studied the age and character of the sands during detailed soil mapping near York.
