Abstract
AMONG the heterogeneous group of children showing autistic symptoms, Kanner described a small sub-group with what he termed “infantile autism”1. Rimland2 suggested that the reticular formation, known to contain 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) (ref. 3), may be involved.
