Relief of Polarity in E. coli by “suA

Abstract

The “suppressor A” allele facilitates the survival of the untranslated mRNA immediately distal to nonsense codons in the tryptophan operon of E. coli. This may be associated with lack of an endonuclease which is thought to degrade the exposed mRNA.
