Ejection of Companion Objects by Supernovae

Abstract

IT is possible that supernovae occur in conjunction with either a satellite planet or binary star. Assuming that neutron stars are the result of such detonations, one asks in what conditions could a planet or star survive such a nearby explosion. In the case of the Crab pulsar, the existence of a planet has been suggested to explain a residual oscillation of period 1 to 1.5 month in the frequency (F. Drake at the Princeton conference on neutron stars and pulsars, November 1969).
